On Sunday 29 November the book ‘Artist as a Toilet Attendant’ written by our colleague Marin Hondebrink will be launched. Marin Hondebrink (1985) is an artist and in order to make ends meet, she has a side job as an attendant in the 2theloo of Hoog Catharijne. Through Facebook posts, she shares her experiences, discoveries and frustrations. With the launch of this book Marin made the news with various television, radio and newspaper interviews. We believe her positive approach towards (sometimes unique) experiences in her work at 2theloo is inspiring. Besides you will see how her experience also translates in her artwork.
Marin Hondebrink (Almelo, 1985) graduated in 2016 as a sculptor from the Utrecht School of the Arts. During her studies at the HKU, she started at 2theloo with a side job as a service employee. This job was easy to combine after graduation and also influenced her artwork. In 2017 she was already interviewed about this wonderful combination by VICE: https://www.vice.com/nl/article/433pxm/ik-liep-een-dagje-mee-met-een-toiletjuffrouw-die-wc-kunst-dicht
Marin’s book will be published by BASBOEK Publishers, that was founded by artist Bas Fontein (Amersfoort, 1978). He has been publishing one new title a year under his own label for over twenty years. Fontein is a co-founder of Dutch Independent Art Book Publishers (DIABP) and his BASBOOKS are distributed by Printed Matter, Walther König and Idea Books, making them available in museum shops and bookstores around the world. Fontein works as a teacher at HKU (Fine Art) and Marin Hondebrink is one of his former students.
We are proud of Marin’s work, and congratulate her on her book launch. Soon you will also be able to buy it at our shop in Utrecht, possibly even with the service of Marin herself! But you can also (pre-)order the book online: http://www.basfontein.com/shop/
