How did your journey at 2theloo begin and what attracted you to your current role?

My journey at 2theloo began in July 2021, during a time when the company was facing significant challenges due to the COVID-19 restrictions. What initially attracted me to the company was the dynamic environment: few established paths, a lot of space to take initiative, and tremendous freedom in my role. 2theloo is a company where the lines are short, which means decisions can be made quickly, and you can have an impact. What really appeals to me is the breadth of my role. We work in a small, close-knit team, where we all take on tasks together and support each other. This makes my role diverse, and I am always presented with new opportunities to develop my skills. I love the responsibility I have and the freedom to manage my work in a way that suits me.

Can you tell us more about your responsibilities within the company?

At 2theloo, I am responsible for everything related to people – both office staff and shop personnel. My work covers a wide range of HR-related areas, from recruitment to maintaining company culture, and everything related to creating a positive and motivating work environment for everyone. I take pride in contributing to a workplace where employees feel valued and where we can build a company culture that emphasizes inclusivity, collaboration, and fun.

What is the biggest challenge in your current role?

What makes 2theloo unique is the international nature of our team. We work with people from various nationalities, which is incredibly enriching but also comes with its own challenges. Cultural differences and varying thought patterns can influence the way we approach tasks. Especially within Europe, I notice that people sometimes think differently about issues, which can make it difficult to get everyone on the same page. It’s a challenge to align everyone’s views, but the process of collaboration and bridging those differences is what makes the work so rewarding. When we manage to come together and achieve a common goal, it’s incredibly satisfying.

Looking at your 2theloo experience so far, what are you most proud of?

It’s remarkable to look back on the tremendous growth we’ve experienced as a team, especially in terms of company culture. When I started at 2theloo, there was a lot of dissatisfaction and even illness among employees, partly due to the COVID-19 restrictions that had placed the company in a difficult position. It was a tough time, but it’s amazing to see how the team has recovered and become stronger. We’re now a close-knit group that does a lot for each other, both professionally and personally. We laugh a lot, but we also work hard. That balance between teamwork and fun is something I’m incredibly proud of.

What makes 2theloo a 'great place to work' in your opinion?

What makes 2theloo truly special is the culture of openness and freedom. I feel that I can completely be myself in this company, and I believe others feel the same way. There is a lot of space for individual initiatives, and the management encourages transparent communication. Here, you have the opportunity to grow, bring in new ideas, and make a real impact. Additionally, the informal atmosphere ensures that work remains enjoyable, even when challenges arise. I think this is the foundation of what makes it a great place to work.

Most important question: who is your favorite superhero and why?

This is a tough question! (I think I’ll need a bit more time to think about this 😉). But if I’m being honest, I think my favorite ‘superpower’ would be the resilience that many people in our team show. That could definitely be considered a kind of ‘superhero’ power for me.

Meet Marjolein and discover what makes her work so unique

How did your journey at 2theloo begin, and what attracted you to your current role?

After nine years with my previous employer, I left with many wonderful memories in search of a new challenge. I was specifically looking for a growing organization with a role in People & Culture where I could make a significant impact. I found this as the Head of People & Culture at 2theloo. The organization’s culture immediately appealed to me: entrepreneurial, dynamic, and filled with a team radiating energy. I’ve now been working here for 1.5 years, and I can confidently say that my initial impressions were spot on! 😊

I am responsible for everything related to people and culture. This ranges from developing the people strategy and implementing priorities like performance management methodologies and a compensation & benefits framework to managing daily HR administration and everything in between. Fortunately, I don’t do this alone—I work closely with my colleague Marjolein and various team members in other countries. This makes my work incredibly enjoyable: the variety is immense, and the sense of accomplishment after a productive day is just as rewarding.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

Finding the right balance between long-term planning and managing day-to-day operations. Since we’re a relatively small team, you’re often jointly responsible for everything that comes up. You handle it yourself while ensuring that larger projects keep moving forward. Additionally, working internationally presents its own (very enjoyable) challenges. I collaborate daily with colleagues from France and Belgium, navigating cultural differences, language barriers, and entirely different laws and regulations. But as I mentioned, it’s a great challenge, and my colleagues are amazing.

Reflecting on your 2theloo experience so far: what are you most proud of?

The impact that we’ve made as a People & Culture team on the organisation. Over the past 1.5 years, we’ve accomplished a lot—from creating new policies to implementing new systems, launching a P&C year program with events and training sessions, and much more. This work has truly made the impact we set out to achieve, which is visible across all departments and countries. Combined with the growth we’ve experienced as an organisation, it makes me incredibly proud of both the company and our team.

What makes 2theloo, in your opinion, a great place to work?

The freedom and opportunity to be entrepreneurial and execute your plans. You are in control of your own success. Of course, this can be challenging as it comes with significant responsibility and relies heavily on your own abilities—but I thrive on that. Additionally, what stands out to me about 2theloo as an employer is the incredible diversity among our employees. For example, in France alone, we employ people of 52 (!) different nationalities. Each employee has their own story and unique reasons for working at 2theloo. It’s not always an easy job—welcoming visitors to our locations and maintaining cleanliness every single day. That’s why we have at least one “Live My Life” day each year, where everyone at 2theloo, from the CEO to the office manager, works at one of our locations as a service employee. Next week, you’ll find me at one of our locations in the Netherlands, complete with cleaning gloves and an apron.

Most important question: who is your favorite superhero, and why?

I’d have to say Hermione Granger, because she’s the perfect combination of intelligence, bravery, and loyalty.

The story behind our successful partnership with Varicor

As part of this partnership, 2theloo will modernise the facilities and ensure they meet the highest standards of hygiene, accessibility and user experience.

We look forward to putting our more than 13 years of experience of operating public toilets to use as we embark on this job with our esteemed partner, Circle K. At 2theloo, we believe that every toilet visit should be surprisingly fun and comfortable for everyone, every time. This renewed collaboration will allow us to offer a new level of convenience to travellers throughout Belgium.

At Circle K, we aim to provide exceptional service to our customers at every touchpoint. By partnering with 2theloo, we are improving our toilet facilities so travellers can be sure of a comfortable and refreshing toilet visit during their journey through Belgium.

The project has already started: at Circle K Nivelles, towards Brussels and Mons, the renovated facilities are now in use. In the course of this year, 15 more shops along the motorways will be renovated, allowing motorists and travellers to enjoy a comfortable pit stop.

It is clear that 2theloo and Circle K are determined to raise the bar for convenience and comfort along Belgian motorways.
