Flushing Waste, Not Water: How 2theloo Saves Millions of Liters Annually

Saving Water, One Flush at a Time.
Every time you flush, you probably don’t think twice about where that water goes. And why would you? A toilet is a toilet, right? Well, not exactly. At 2theloo, we believe that a toilet break shouldn’t just be clean and comfortable—it should also be smart. That’s why we’ve teamed up with our partners, like Geberit, to rethink what happens when you push that button (or wave your hand, because yes, we’ve got touchless tech)..
Every day, millions of liters of clean drinking water are flushed away. In fact, traditional toilets account for nearly 30% of household water usage. Now, imagine that at scale in public spaces. At 2theloo, we know we can’t change the world overnight, but we’re constantly looking for smarter ways to use less water — because we understand that it adds up.

What's the impact with 40 million visitors?
Last year alone, over 40 million people visited our facilities across Europe. Now, let’s put that into perspective. Imagine if every one of those visitors used a traditional toilet—that’s a whole lot of water down the drain. A regular toilet gulps down 6.5 liters per flush—that’s like pouring an entire bucket of water away every single time. Our toilets? They do the job with just 4.5 liters. Doesn’t sound like a big deal? An average visitor to a 2theloo facility saves nearly 3 liters of water per trip—that’s over 1,000 liters per year per regular customer. Now, multiply that across Europe and by millions of flushes, and suddenly, we’re saving an ocean’s worth of water — a stunning 100 million liters every year. That’s enough to fill more than 32 Olympic-sized swimming pools!
But we didn’t stop there.
Urinals can be even bigger water wasters. Traditional ones use around 3.5 liters per flush, but ours? A crisp 0.5 liters. That’s an 80% reduction per flush.

And then there are the taps. We use special low-flow faucets with a maximum flow rate of 2.5 liters per minute, cutting water usage by 85% compared to standard taps. Plus, they shut off automatically after five seconds, so no one accidentally leaves a tap running while admiring their hair in the mirror.

Small Adjustments, Big Impact.
It’s easy to think of sustainability as a 'catch-all term' because it gets used to cover so many different things, from the environment to social issues to economic factors, making it a bit tricky to really pin down what it means in any given situation. In this case it doesn't refer to a drastic lifestyle change, but rather to small adjustment that make significant impact. By rethinking the way public toilet facilities operate, 2theloo is proving that even a quick pit-stop can contribute to less consumption.

Remember when we said we make it fun to have to pee? That’s still true, but now, every visit to a 2theloo location also makes a difference.
