How did your adventure at 2theloo begin, and what attracted you to your current position?

My trip began with two exceptional human encounters: those with our Head of Operations and our COO, followed by a fantastic team in Amsterdam. My central role in daily management became immediately apparent. The challenge presented to me was significant: to collaboratively build 2theloo's activity within our NMBS project in Belgium. Drawing upon my experience in operations, trade, and client relations as an entrepreneur and project manager across various sectors, I was drawn to my current position due to its autonomy and the trust it entailed. We had a market to create, necessitating site development, renovation, team building, and the strengthening of our relationship with NMBS.

Can you tell us more about your responsibilities within the company?

I am responsible for all operations at our sites located in NMBS stations throughout Belgium, which entails planning and controlling operational processes. Team management is a significant aspect of my role. My main tasks include:

Managing human, financial, and material resources required for operations;

Developing and implementing operational strategies in collaboration with our teams at the Amsterdam headquarters;

Ensuring quality and compliance with 2theloo standards;

Managing relationships with clients and suppliers;

Problem-solving: identifying and swiftly resolving issues by collaborating with team members to find effective solutions;

Analysing performance in terms of quality and planning, always in collaboration with our internal teams.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

My greatest challenge is to consolidate teams and prioritise customer satisfaction by providing optimal services tailored to our high-quality standards. This entails not only establishing strong and well-coordinated teams but also developing solutions that precisely meet our customers' expectations.

Looking back on your experience at 2theloo so far, what are you most proud of?

I take immense pride in having contributed to the construction and enhancement of our operational processes and the formation of exceptional teams in the field. This hard work has not only bolstered our operational efficiency but also fostered an environment where every team member can flourish and excel in their role. Collaborating closely with my colleagues, I've witnessed the tangible results of our efforts, which fills me with satisfaction.

In your opinion, what makes 2theloo a great place to work?

Our company, despite its many years of market experience, maintains the dynamic spirit characteristic of startups/scale-ups. We are constantly seeking improvement, questioning our practices to better adapt to consumer demands, and bringing forth new innovations. This approach drives us to creatively introduce new concepts, thereby staying aligned with market developments and the evolving needs of our customers.

The most important question: who is your favourite superhero, and why?

I don't have just one hero but many. My heroes are the individuals, whether anonymous or not, who work tirelessly every day, whether in the shadows or in the limelight, to deliver quality service at our sites. Their dedication and commitment are the cornerstone of our success, as they tirelessly strive day in and day out to meet our customers' needs.

How did your journey with 2theloo begin, and what attracted you to your current position?

On a Saturday during the "Bokkentocht" in May 2023, I spoke with my cousin Koen Theeuwes. He asked if I was still enjoying the job I had been doing for 25 years. I told him that I was looking for a new challenge, but nothing had come my way yet. That’s how the ball started rolling, and since September 1, 2023, I have been the Field Coach at 2theloo. What attracted me most to my current role is the constant communication required to achieve even better results. Additionally, there are plenty of opportunities for self-development.

I try to enthusiastically engage the staff of our partners during training to ensure the best possible cleaning of the 2theloo facilities. I am not afraid to roll up my sleeves and help out as well. I believe we must work together to achieve our goals.

The biggest challenge in my current role is balancing the needs and perspectives of everyone involved, understanding that I can't always make everyone happy. Sometimes, despite good ideas, you have to disappoint people. It's crucial to have empathy for both sides of any issue.

Looking at your 2theloo experience so far: what are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my ability to adapt to circumstances, make them my own, and strive to improve or at least get the most out of them. I am also working on creating a cleaning checklist, which is expected to be rolled out soon, aiming to further elevate our cleaning standards.

What makes 2theloo, in your opinion, a great place to work?

The most important thing is, of course, that it helps me pay my bills ;) but a pleasant and safe work environment with people who help you when needed is also incredibly valuable. The freedom to bring out the best in yourself is something that greatly appeals to me.

Most important question: who is your favorite superhero, and why?

I don’t really have a superhero, but if I had to name someone, it would be my wife. She allows me to be who I am, encourages me, listens to me, and often gives me that extra push or, if needed, a brake to help me achieve my best.

As the Manager of 2theloo in the UK, I began my journey with a clear mission: to ensure the provision of high-quality service in accordance with the schedules and demands of Covent Garden market. Operating seven days a week for approximately twelve hours a day, I was attracted to the challenge of maintaining a high standard of hygiene and customer service, while complying with British market regulations. The trust and support from 2theloo, especially being the only store operating in the UK, made me feel committed to ensuring administrative, operational, personnel, and customer service aspects were upheld at the highest level.

My responsibilities include ensuring that our service meets the high standards expected in Covent Garden. This involves maintaining a high standard of hygiene, quality in customer service, and compliance with market regulations. Additionally, I focus on maintaining good relationships with all associates and parties, keeping a motivated and engaged team, and ensuring that our operations run smoothly. Administrative duties, operational oversight, and personnel management are all crucial aspects of my role.

The biggest challenge in my current role has been navigating the complexities of Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. Ensuring that our store continued to operate smoothly during these periods required constant adaptation to changing regulations and conditions. Keeping our team safe and providing adequate service during the pandemic, while maintaining our standards of quality, was particularly challenging.

I am most proud of our team’s resilience and adaptability. Despite the challenges posed by Brexit and the pandemic, we managed to keep the store operational and continued to develop steadily. Ensuring our team’s safety and maintaining high service standards during such uncertain times is an achievement that stands out.

From the very beginning, I was familiar with 2theloo when the first location opened in Kalverstraat. As a Formula Manager at Capi-Lux, I was immediately captivated by the striking and surprising concept. When I saw on LinkedIn that 2theloo had won a significant tender, I seized the opportunity. After contacting Loes Rhebergen, the discussions began, and I was able to start as Formula & Project Manager on September 1st. To this day, I have no regrets about taking this step.

In my role, I am responsible for developing and implementing new and existing concepts for 2theloo. This includes further developing our modular model, integrating digital tools, and creating entirely new concepts like our 'unstaffed' model. I oversee the construction and delivery of these projects and am responsible for budget, quality control, and planning, in close collaboration with our building & construction team.

The biggest challenge is to make a toilet visit a surprising experience for less money. This means optimizing construction processes, finding new materials and methods, and generating new revenue streams, for example, through retail or advertising. Despite the rising costs in the construction sector, I enthusiastically take on this challenge with my team.

I am particularly proud of the realisation of our new retail presentation concept in Utrecht HC and Antwerp, the facade of our flagship store in Antwerp, and our interactive digital washbasin for children and adults, including the surprising voucher deals.

What I find immensely appealing is that we can quickly switch gears and achieve a lot with a small team. Everyone works from the same core values: we care, we surprise, and we deliver. This motivates and inspires us to challenge and strengthen each other. This makes 2theloo not only a great place to work but even the best for me!

That's a tough choice because I have several. My parents are my biggest heroes because they have shaped who I am. From my passion for playing guitar, Jimi Hendrix is a huge inspiration; no one plays the instrument like he does. Daily, I find inspiration and surprises from various heroes who continuously help me learn and grow.
