Meet our CEO, Chris Meijers.
The story behind our CEO, Chris Meijers, and his vision for 2theloo.
Our CEO, Chris Meijers, has been the captain of 2theloo's ship since summer 2022. Under his leadership, 2theloo remains a place where entrepreneurship, short lines of communication and room for your own ideas are key. And while Chris doesn't really have one favourite superhero, he especially draws a lot from the vision of entrepreneurs like Howard Schultz, founder of Starbucks. Howard believes in an organisation where human connection, passion and shared success are central - values that are also highly valued at 2theloo....
How did your journey at 2theloo begin, and what attracted you to your current role?
I joined 2theloo in the summer of 2022. What truly drew me in was the fact that we provide a service people rely on every single day. You can immediately see the impact of your work, and it’s an opportunity to make a real difference. This makes the work very tangible and rewarding. I was also excited by the international nature of the business, especially being part of a company that is growing and aims to keep expanding. On top of that, I enjoy building a close-knit and enthusiastic team. We’re professional yet approachable, and every day we work together to improve just a little bit more for our customers.
Can you tell us more about your responsibilities within the company?
As CEO, I’m ultimately responsible for everything that happens at 2theloo. Of course, I don’t do this alone—I collaborate with a fantastic team of colleagues who each bring their own expertise to the table. My focus is primarily on driving the growth of the company, both in the Netherlands and internationally. We achieve this by opening new locations, forging partnerships, and continuously enhancing our daily service for customers.
What is your biggest challenge in your current role?
The biggest challenge lies in balancing the daily operations with the many exciting opportunities that come our way. It’s about striking the right balance between improving our service for customers every day and pursuing growth opportunities, such as smarter data usage and implementing AI. Essentially, it’s a matter of managing the balance between working in the business and working on the business.
Looking back at your time with 2theloo so far, what are you most proud of?
There are two things I am particularly proud of.
First, I’m incredibly proud of all our colleagues across different countries who ensure that our customers enjoy a comfortable restroom experience every single day. It’s often demanding work, and they deserve tremendous recognition for their dedication.
Second, I’m proud of the growth we’ve achieved as a company over the past two years. Together, we’ve made significant strides. Key milestones include renewing our partnership with CircleK/Total in Belgium and securing a long-term contract with the Belgian Railways in 2023.
What makes 2theloo a great place to work, in your opinion?
The culture at 2theloo is highly entrepreneurial and internationally focused.
We operate with short communication lines, have a scale-up mentality, and provide ample space to implement your own ideas. It’s a place where you truly get the opportunity to make things happen and drive meaningful change.
And now, the most important question: who is your favorite superhero, and why?
I don’t have one specific favorite superhero, but from a business perspective, I find a lot of inspiration in Howard Schultz, the founder of Starbucks. His book Onwards is an excellent read and filled with insights that resonate with me. What stands out is how he built a company centered around human connection, passion, and collaboration towards a shared goal. His quote, “Success is best when it’s shared,” captures this beautifully.
